I had the pleasure of having a deep and wide-ranging discussion with Joel Morgan, host of the Dropping Keys podcast. I've heard from lots of folks (thank you for the feedback and love!) about how this interview touched them and gave them much to think about, so I wanted to be sure to share it with you.
We were talking about my journey, but what we were really getting into was the elements of personal transformation, which is at the core of my Mosaic work.
๐ถ The journey begins with some form of "getting taken down to the studs." In my case, this was leaving a toxic work situation, but it can be any other event that seriously shakes you up such as being fired, relationship upheaval, a health issue, death of a loved one, or entering a new life stage.
๐ถ Healing begins with the development of self-compassion. For me, that was about building myself up to a point where I could face and unwind my need to be a "good girl." I didn't know it then, but being good was a cage I'd built that kept me from growing. I had to learn to love my imperfect self before I could loosen my grip on my unhelpful patterns.
๐ถ When you can break through the shame and know that you're ok just as you are, you become humble. In my case, I no longer had to know it all, be it all, or control it all. I learned to humbly bow to Life. Turns out Life has a lot of cool places to take us when we stop trying to do it all ourselves.
๐ถ I've been coming out in one way or another my entire life. What that's taught me is to be flexible about my identity because, honey, it's going to change. Coming out is the glorious, neverending process of becoming more and more yourself.
I was so grateful for this discussion and for my new friend, Joel. I hope you'll check it out and enjoy it too. I'd love to hear your thoughts about it, feel free to email me.
To your exquisite transformation,
